J.JIG

Flight testing without flying

A drone mounted on J.JIG can be run under conditions close to real flight, so problems in key components can be found before flying. The jig is fully mechanical. It weighs 3 kg, and its legs fold for storage.

Why J.JIG?

Three-axis rotation

A ball joint allows roll and pitch of ±25° and unlimited yaw, so the drone can be tested in different attitudes.

Portability

J.JIG weighs 3 kg and the support legs fold, so it can be carried to any test site. The simple design is quick to repair.

Drone compatibility

Any drone that fits the 8 × 8 cm mounting plate can be mounted. The limit is thrust, not size (see Q&A).

Q&A

Which drones can I mount?

It depends on thrust rather than size. The J.JIG parts add about 180 g to the drone, so the drone must be able to take off with that extra weight.

The whole jig weighs about 3 kg. If the drone’s test thrust gets close to or above 3 kgf (29 N), the jig can lift or slide sideways, which is dangerous. In our tests, a drone with 20-inch propellers and 85 cm between motors made the jig slide, and we had to add weight to it.

How do I mount my drone?

Fix it to the 8 × 8 cm mounting plate using the grid of holes. How to fix it depends on the drone’s frame.

Does J.JIG need maintenance?

If J.JIG has been stored for a long time, grease the ball joint with a metal lubricant so it moves freely.

Precautions

The jig itself is simple, but the drone on it has fast-spinning propellers.

Before testing

  • Tighten the screws between the support and the jig body. Replace any loose screws before use.
  • Attach the drone firmly to the mounting plate. Replace the plate if a hard impact has bent it.
  • Check the drone’s thrust range. A high-thrust drone can lift J.JIG off the ground.
  • If the drone’s attitude control has not been verified, place a heavy object on the support. An unstable drone can knock the product over.
  • Install a safety net to protect the propellers and other parts of the drone.

During testing

  • Stop the drone before approaching J.JIG.
  • Keep fingers and objects away from the parts that move up and down.
  • If the drone maneuvers too hard, repeated impact can break the ball joint. Stop immediately and correct the position control.
